Investigator

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As investigator, your job is to ask and answer questions. You will need to have one comment approved from this post in which you ask at least three great, higher-level questions. For each question you ask, you need to provide your own answer/opinion. The answer needs to include evidence from the text to support your opinion. If the answer to your question is stated directly in the text, your question is too easy, and so it will not be posted. Each question is really more like a paragraph with your explanation of the answer you think is correct. That means that this post requires three big, fat, juicy paragraphs! Plus, you need to complete the second part of the directions.

You will also need to answer one question each from at least three different people. Your answers should definitely use evidence from the text. Make sure to let the group know where your evidence comes from by writing the page and paragraph number. Your responses require multiple sentences. Each response will be a separate comment - one big, fat, juicy paragraph for each answer!

Some of you have asked for some help with analysis and synthesis level questions. Here is a short list to get you started...

If you do not know what the words in the questions mean, use your resources to figure them out!

* What change would you make to solve _____?
* How would you improve _______?
* What might happen if _____?
* Can you elaborate on the reason for _____?
* Can you propose an alternative idea for _____?
* Can you invent _____?
* How would you adapt_____ to create a different _____?
* How would you change or modify the plot?
* Suppose you could _____. What would you do?
* How would you test _____?
* What do you predict will happen if _____?
* Why do you think _____?
* What are the features of _____?
* How is ____ related to _____?
* What is the character's motive for _____?
* What inference can you make from _____?
* What evidence can you find for _____?
* What is the relationship between _____ and _____?
* What ideas might justify the opinion that _____?

Dear Ms. Vander Velde and group C,

My first question is “How come cats and mice are friends in the city but enemies in the country?” I came up with this question on page 28 paragraph 4 and 5. I think the reason they are friends in the city but enemies in the country is because in the city there is no time to fight and they need to help each other to survive in the cold and cruel city will in the country the only thing to do is fight because they don't need help to survive because in the city if your a mouse there aren't many planets to eat and if your a stray cat people aren't going to be carrying cat food in their pockets while in the country the cat is there to fight the mice and the mice are surrounded by fields of plants.

My second question is “Why do people not buy the quality newspapers and magazines at Mario's dad's newsstand when Mario was working?” I came up with this question on page 15 paragraph 4 and 5. I think people don't buy the quality newspapers and magazines is because they think that if this little kid is selling newspapers then their probably out dated and cause it looks poor and can't buy good newspapers. I think this because in the book Tucker the mouse said the newsstand was going broke and Mario (By the pictures in the book from time to time) looks like he's around ten.

My last question was “How come Chester brought up how people think he goes 'chee chee chee' or 'treet treet treet' when it wasn't really important at the moment.” I came up with this question on page 30 paragraph 3. I think Chester brought it up because he felt like sharing it with his new friends or he wanted to see what they would say about it.

Hope you guys can answer my questions,
Joseph

Dear Ms. Vander Velde and Group C,
Here is a few questions that I had while I was reading the book, “The Cricket in Times Square” by George Selden. Why did Sai Fong gave a Chinese dinner free to Mario? Shouldn't you think that maybe there should be a little price? I came up with this question on page 78, paragraph 5. Sai Fong is a guy who owns the shop, so Sai Fong is probably trying to make money. But if Sai Fong gave a lot of Chinese food for free, Sai Fong wouldn't make a lot of money.

My second question is why did the guy who worked at the restaurant gave Chester and Mario a free soda? I got this question on page 38, paragraph 2. If the guy who worked at the restaurant was the manager, it wouldn't be weird. But the guy who gave Chester and Mario was only a counterman. Another reason for this is because the guy who gave Chester and Mario can get fired if someone found out.

My last question that was pretty confusing is when all the stores were closed because it was Sunday but Sai Fong's store was not closed. I got this question on page 45, paragraph 2. It doesn't make sense that much because if all the stores were closed and Sai Fong's store was not close, it seems pretty weird. It wouldn't be weird if Sai Fong's store was a restaurant because a lot of restaurant are not closed on Sunday.

Your student,
Raymond
